As a temporary solution you can download the virus definitions from http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/defs.download.html

1. Try Re-setting your hosts file
• Right click and Save this file to your desktop.
• Open it and go to file > extract all

• Click next
• When prompted for a location to extract it, type or copy and paste this location: C:\windows\system32\drivers\et

• Click yes to replace the existing file

Often spyware and viruses will add entries to this file to redirect you to their sites, and replacing it with a clean copy will solve these problems.

When prompted if you want to replace the file click 'Yes'

Reinstall LiveUdpate

• If updating virus definitions using liveupdate fails consistently, often a reinstallation works. Download the latest version of liveupdate from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/lusetup.exe

Replace Corrupted Files

• If LiveUpdate doesn’t work even after reinstallation, search Program Files folder for s32luhl1.dll and rename all copies to s32luhl1.dll.old and run LiveUpdate again. Enable Enhanced Error Support

If none of the above worked,

1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel
2. Go to Symantec Liveupdate

Check the box for 'Enable Enhanced Error Support' and click ok

Run liveupdate again, and when it displays a blue underlined link to display more information on the error, this will redirect you to symantec's support website with more information.
