    • An Expanded Threat virus scan using Symantec Antivirus (version 9 or greater) will also take care of some adware and spyware programs that the above programs could not fix.

To enable scanning for "Expanded Threats" follow these steps:

        1. Start your computer in Safe Mode.
        2. Open the virus scanner (double click on the gold shield in the taskbar).
        3. Select Scan Computer from the left Window Frame.
        4. In the Scan Computer menu, check the box next to your computer's harddrive, and then click options.
        5. Check the boxes Scan in-memory threats and Scan for expanded threats. Move the slider next to Priority when not idle all the way to the right.
        6. In the top-right there is a tab labeled Macro Virus with one to the right called Non-macro Virus. Keep going to the right until you see the Expanded Threats tab.
        7. Select Delete infected file for Action.
        8. Click the Save Settings button in the bottom-right.
        9. Click OK
        10. Click Scan. The window shown below will appear as your computer is scanned. Depending on your computer and how many files you have, a scan could take ten minutes to a few hours.
