Safe Mode is a part of Windows that allows you to access the Windows interface without running any unnecessary computer programs and is useful when trying to fix problems on your computer. When running scans to remove Spyware, Adware, and Viruses, it is best to run them in Safe Mode, so these threats can properly be removed from your computer.
To access Safe Mode in Windows XP/Vista:
- Turn your computer off
- Turn your computer on and immediately start tapping the F8 button
- A menu on a black screen will come up. Choose Safe Mode and hit Enter on your keyboard.
- You will then be asked which operating system to start. Choose Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, depending on your operating sytem.
- When the login screen loads, choose the administrator account, unless you don't have access to it. If it is not password protected now would be a good time to apply a password.
- Windows XP will then ask you if you are sure that you want to work in safe mode. Click yes, and you will be in Safe Mode.
