Accessing the UConn Public Wireless Network
There is currently a wireless network available to UCONN students in various academic and multi-purpose areas around campus. These locations include the Student Union, MSB, Gampel Pavilion, and the UConn Co-op. (For a full list, please refer to this website) There is no public wireless available in residential halls. In order to access the UConn network wirelessly in residential halls, students must use their own personal networking devices. ResNet recommends the devices below, as we are better equipped to troubleshoot them and offer assistance when necessary.
In order to use the UCONN public wireless, located in various hotspots around campus, you will need a computer or handheld device with an 802.11b/g wireless network adapter.Almost any IEEE 802.11b/g card will work with the UCONN wireless network.
UCONN UITS - Network Engineering does not recommend any specific brands of adapters at this time. If you are purchasing a wireless adapter it is important to concentrate on finding a card that has the following criteria listed on the box or documented in its specifications. Check with the manufacture of the PC or PDA to ensure it is compatible with the device and Operating System before making your purchase. WPA2 Enterprise and 802.11i may be required in the future for the secure network.

Wireless Access in Residence Halls
There is no public wireless available in residential halls. When desiring a wireless network in a residence hall students can set up their own device. In order to facilitate support of these devices we encourage and recommend students use the following models. We cannot guarantee complete support for these devices but will be able to better troubleshoot as needed if the models listed below are used. Before using any of these devices please go to netreg.uconn.edu and register your device. You are expected to setup your device as specified on our web page to ensure appropriate use.
