The 192.x.x.x or 10.0.x.x IP indicates that the you are using a router. If you are not using a router, then you might be the victim of a rogue router.
If you are using a router
If you are using a router and are unable to get an internet connection, follow these steps:
- Make sure that you have completed the SelfReg process correctly, including entering the correct MAC address
- Make sure that you have plugged the router in correctly
- Make sure that you have set up your router correctly
- If you are using a router that is one of our recommended devices, check on the setup here.
- If you are using a router that is NOT one of our recommended devices, refer to the manufacturer's guide.
If none of these steps work, call ResNet at 860-486-4087
If you are NOT using a router
In setting up a router, another student may have installed their Ethernet cables in an incorrect fashion. By plugging a router in "backwards," a router will recklessly assign IP addresses to computers at random on the subnet. This may knock out your internet connection, as you will be given an IP from the router, instead of pulling a real connection from the actual network.
In this instance, the only thing you can do is call ResNet and report the problem. We will then attempt to track down the "rogue router" and fix the problem.
