The 169 IP address indicates that there is a problem in establishing a connection between the network card and the Ethernet jack.
If the problem is resolved after 1 of the forst 2 steps, you do not need to continue. To resolve this issue, try the steps below.
- Check for physical connection issues
- Incorrect or Bad Splitter - If you are using a splitter, try the other slot. If that does not work, try to plugging directly into the wall. It is possible your splitter has malfunctioned.
- Bad/Wrong Cable Connection - It is also possible that the cable you are using has either malfunctioned, or it not actually an Ethernet cable.
- Reset the IP address
- Click Start, then Run
- Type cmd then click OK
- Type IPconfig /release in the black box, then hit Enter
- Restart your computer
- Try the Winsock Fix
- Click Start, then Run
- Type cmd then click OK
- Type netsh winsock reset
- Restart your computer
