Find your IP address

The first thing to do in order to troubleshoot a network problem is to check your IP address. Follow the instructions below in order to obtain your IP.

  1. Windows XP and Vista
    • Go to the start menu and click run.
    • At the prompt, enter cmd for Windows XP or Vista computers.
    • A black window should then open. Type IPconfig and press enter.
    • The number that you want to look for is under IP Address (XP) or IPv4 (Vista).
    • The goal is to get the IP address to a 137.99.x.x, as that indicates a machine that has gone through the NetReg process and is connected to the UConn network. To further troubleshoot click on the IP that you are getting below.
  2. Mac OSX
    • Open System Preferences located in the dock. It's listed by default. Look for the icon with a light switch and the Apple logo. Alternately, it should be located under the Apple menu in the top-left.
    • Under Internet & Network, open Network.
    • On the TCP/IP tab, "Using DHCP" should be listed under Configure. Your IP Address should be listed in the left column.
