  • Accessing the Network

    • Install TCP/IP
      • Click Start and then Control Panel.
      • In the address bar (near the top of the window) type in Network Connections
        • If you do not see an address bar, click on View, then Toolbars, then Address Bar.
        • You may also click on the Network Connections icon if you have classic view enabled.
      • Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
      • If you do not see a Network Card listed in the Connect Using box, refer to the Device Manager to see if your Network Card is installed.
      • Click Install
      • Click on the Protocol item from the list.
      • Click on the Add button
      • Select TCP/IP from the list
      • Click the OK button
      • Click the Close> button to save settings.
      • Your computer may ask you to restart. Click OK to do so
    • Configure TCP/IP
      • Open the Control Paneland then Network Connections
      • Right-click on Local Area Connection and then click Properties
      • The next screen you should see should look like this. You may see more things listed in the middle list than are shown here, but what you are looking for is one that says Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Once you have Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) highlighted, click Properties
      • Make sure that under the General tab, both options are set to automatic
    • Name Your Computer
      • Click Start, and then Control Panel
      • In the address bar (near the top of the window) type System.
        • If you do not see the address bar, click View, then Toolbars, then Address Bar.
        • You may also double click on the System icon if you have classic view enabled.
      • Click on the Computer Name tab.
      • Click change
      • In the Computer name: dialog box enter a unique name to identify your computer on the UCONN network.
      • In the Workgroup Section enter UCONN for your workgroup name.
      • Click OK to save the changes.
      • Click OK again to save. Your computer may ask you to restart; click OK to do so.
    • Configure Web Browser
    • Register for service.
      • Following the successful completion of the above steps, when you open your web browser you will be directed to NetReg to register your computer on the university network.
